CONCACAF Goes Bigtime, Gets Match-Fixing Allegations

Match-fixing allegations
in CONCACAF Champions League? And in a game involving an MLS team? Say it isn't so!

Actually I'll say it isn't so. I know next to nothing about match-fixing --I'm not a Serie A fan-- but I'm going to guess that it surely takes more than 10K to get a game thrown in 2010. I mean 10K? Really? You may as well offer up a used Ford Focus, 6 lbs. of salmon and an evening's worth of drink tickets at Dave & F***ing Buster's.

I'm calling BS on this one. In the end this will come out as the sporting equivalent of the lady who said someone threw acid on her and then later confessed that she did it herself: bizarre, unnecessary and untrue.

I fyou think 10K isn't enough to fix a match, you really have to read Declan Hill's excellent investigation in to match fixing called "The Fix". Also note that the fixers alledgedly approached members of Arabe Unido, dudes that aren't paid very much.

I agree with the above comment. The Arabe Unido players live in Panama. 10k US dollars (heck, even Canadian dollars) buys a lot more there than here. Those guys aren't exactly making MLS bucks, which isn't that much either (30k US dollars is the MLS minimum). That would be a fortune to a Panamanian.

This sounds more like sour grapes to me. The Arabe Unido players flopped around like bitches the entire second half (there were something like 9 stretcher trips to cart their "injured players" off the field) to try to waste time to secure a tie.
To top it off after the match they tried really hard to destroy the visitors locker room at Rio Tinto.
I call BS.

They weren't offering to pay the Panamanians, they wanted the Panamanians to pay them...which makes less sense when I think about it because yes, 10K mean much more down there than up here.

SF: Either way, 10K is all it takes some times. Hell, 10K to an MLS player making league minimum would be pretty tempting, wouldn't it?

Monica Conyers changed her vote on a Sludge hauling contract for only $5,000 so....

Funny that Anonymous says Arabe Unido flopped around "like bitches" (slur to women.) You don't see flopping in the WPS. You see the flopping in the men's game. You've got it backwards.
