Last night Timbers fans said "Holla atcha" to PGE Park's days as a minor league venue when their team played it's final home game of the 2010 season. How did the sold-out crowd say goodbye? With sunflowers. Never seen that one before but hey, why not.
It was Timber Jim's (the previous mascot) idea to send off the team with that celebration while singing You Are My Sunshine. That song is sung around the 80th minute at every home game after Timber Jim did it after his daughter passed away. Sunflowers were her favorite flower, and sun is pretty important in Portland, since there isn't much of it.

I was in tears. That will forever be one of my greatest sports memories. Perfect goal at the perfect time, perfect way to send off the last regular season game as a minor league club. Timbers Army was massive that night, and seems to be adding in numbers with every game. The last 4-5 games were all 14k+, next season is looking to be a massive success in the stands.

The best part was the goal during that celebration! Epic!
Can some explain that? Interesting.

This is true soccer culture!
I would be in tears when NY finally gets it.
@JL
seriously. I can't wait for the Timbers to join the MLS and I'm a HUGE RSL fan.
@WILL
That video was great! Loved the guy yelling in the background to find the open space, give him a target, that's how it's done.
The Sunflower Goal.
You can't fake this.
Link please, looks like the video has been removed.
