Thierry Henry Suffers Fools Lightly

TiTi continues the Manahattan media mayhem: this morning it was the city's most insipid morning show, Good Day New York. I have to say he's been a trooper with this stuff but I get the feeling that if interviewers don't start prepping he's going to crack. Watch at your own peril.

This is so cringeworthy. I feel so bad for him.

Oh sweet jesus, they use the Ireland handling incident as their promo shot. How the hell did that get through?

Ugh. God. Seriously, I couldn't get past the "So, you just won the World Cup?" part. It's literally painful. As in, it literally makes part of my stomach twist into a knot. It's so embarrassing, so disrespectful, so humiliating.

I had to stop the video. Hope it didn't get worse, although I'm not sure how it could.

@Me Here - good thing you turned it off, as it gets worse as it goes on. These journalists should lose their jobs for an interview this terrible. I've seen local high school cub reporters do better prep work to interview farm hands.

I'm impressed with Henry so far. It seems he really wants to play to his best abilities with his team first and possibly as a MLS ambassador second He's not making the same mistakes as Beckham did, promising to save soccer but he's realistic. This interview was however pitiful. It's these sort of people that embarrass the US to the rest of the soccer world. There was no preperation whatsoever for this interview by these reporters.

WHAT? What a bunch of revisionist hogwash.

Beckham never promised he'd "save soccer." The Galaxy never promised he'd "save soccer." Fans never promised he'd "save soccer." MLS never promised he'd "save soccer."

The only people who brought up anything about Beckham "saving soccer" were media dolts and message board fools who don't even follow the sport. All the rest of us, from MLS and Beckham on down, loudly refuted the entire premise that soccer needed "saving" in the first place.

Go back and read interviews with Beckham, Garber et al. from that time period, and watch how every single one of them GOES OUT OF HIS WAY to emphasize that Beckham was just one small step in a bigger journey.

I'm so tired of the goofy revisionist history with the whole Beckham thing. It usually comes from soccer bashers who ignorantly cite it as a "failure" because it didn't transform MLS into the NFL or whatever -- when that was never the stated expectation to begin with. But now we've got even soccer fans doing it...? Sheez.

Sorry 'bout that Tee-arry. We basically had you sit down in front of the camera with our mom and soccer hating uncle on TV and conduct and impromptu interview. That was like an SNL skit and almost as funny.

@Me Here. Well said.

I left them some polite suggestions regarding this failed interview.

"We love blowouts."

Seriously, do "mainstream" sports fans really like blowouts? These people are as smart as rocks.

Beckham took his clothes off ... what are you willing to do?

Henry is seriously too cool for MLS, and America in general. This guy is on an entirely nother level of cool..

This is absolutely hilarious. I almost feel for him... then again he sold out for millions of dollars and chose the easy way out. He's only 32 and still has at least 3 seasons in him at the highest level.
