The Giuseppe Rossi Fan Club Perplexes Me

I saw a lot of random and interesting things yesterday at Steve Nash's Showdown in Chinatown. B-baller Nate Robinson dropping off crosses and attacking from the wing like his name was Thierry Henry. A huddle of NBA wives. Youri Djorkaeff blasting one off the crossbar from 2o+ yds out like it was 1998. Phoenix Suns forward Jared Dudley scoring and celebrating by scaling a fence.

But nothing was more intriguing/disturbing/perplexing than the sight of a gaggle of young New Yorkers -including one in a U.S. soccer kit- cheering and chanting for Giuseppe Rossi. In all honesty I actually thought he'd be the recipient of a barrage of boos by U.S. supporters high on post-Algeria glory but surprisingly there wasn't a peep from the haters.

Seriously, the sh*t was weird. Frustrating too because watching Rossi from the endline just left of goal you could see that the dude has skill that the USMNT doesn't possess outside of Donovan & perhaps Dempsey. Oh well though; he's playing in celebrity pick-up games while the Yanks are winning their group and heading to the round of 16. And after Italy's debacle against Slovakia today I'm sure he might be doing a bit of soul searching in regard to his off-the-field decision-making abilities.

Ridiculous about wanting to play for the Azzurri being a Jersey Shore reject. I don't blame Rossi but Euro poseurs in the US are ridiculous.

He has family there...i honestly dont blame him. I wouldn't boo him. We should be putting up Americans who want to do well, even if they dont play for us. It's all good for the game eventually. :)

Um, these kids are criminally stupid. Not because they like Rossi but because of their comments about how we need more events like this to make soccer huge in the US. Hey dumbasses, the US just topped their group at the World Cup. I wonder what that will do for the sport here?

I was sitting just to the left of those guys (and in front of the guy with the vuvuzela). They did add a lot of atmosphere.

I actually feel a little pity for Rossi (until I remembered that I would trade careers with him in a heartbeat): missed out on the Olympics, then barely missed out on the Italian World Cup team.

One of my favorite highlights was Nate Robinson's goal celebrations: first taking off his shirt, then later, a cartwheel and then flip. I'm sure Doc Rivers will be happy hear about that goal celebration....

BTW, Sinisa Ubiparipovic clearly could have dribbled circles around everyone, if he wanted too.

You know what would have been better than rooting for him??
Not rooting for him...

what a bunch of f'n Jersey Shore rejects!!!

These kids need to be forced to watch "Band of Brothers" and have their "Goodfather" collection taken away...

Man I am so happy to see us on the second round and Italy on a charter plane back to Milan.

Hello all,

1. Italy has won 4 world cups. Until the US ever wins at least 1, you have absolutely no right to speak. (so shut it)

2. As for Jersey shore, im pretty sure none of these "kids" are from New jersey.

3. At least these people try and have fun and help develop the love for the game in the US. (dumbass)

4. Anyone that has a problem with any of these things, well you are a killjoy.

have a wonderful life "fans"
Love,
your friendly neighborhood spiderman
