Please try to ignore the first minute and Shepard Smith's unnecessary snarkyness.

What a colossal a-hole. Yet another reason to never watch Fox News.

I think that at least one member of the Fox News team may be a little more receptive to the game.

And Shep is supposed to be one of the "good ones."

yea he doesnt have to be an A-Hole about. i thought he was one of the more reasonable ones on FOX news

He's a douche, yet no more dismissive than John Anderson on ESPN. He's supposed to be a professional sports newscaster yet flaunts his ignorance of and disdain for soccer.

i wonder if he feels the same way about the jets and giants playing in new jersey

How on earth is he a news reporter... what an ass

Hey, it's not entirely Shep's fault - he DID go to Ole Miss.

And is Leventhal wearing a black and red DC United scarf? I hope I saw that right - even when they're getting great national press, the Metros still get outdone by United!.

That's the most longest I've ever watched Fox News...well...ever.

I love the tone of "Soccer creating jobs?!? Surely you jest!" from Shep.

I'm a FNC fan (and apparently the only one who regularly reads this blog). ;-) Shep was disappointing but I'm not surprised. We are from about the same generation and when most people learn that I know so much about MLS or International Soccer they still think it's some sort of odd hobby. That said, our day is coming. I like Brucio from duNord's recent metaphor...soccer is like a glacier slowly enveloping the country. I think by the time the Frank Defords and his ilk figure it out (although I believe many of them have but fear reporting it) it'll be all over but singing from the terraces. I grew up a huge baseball fan and still love the game (but loathe MLB). Many would call me crazy but I look at the typical MLB crowd demographic and I feel much more optimistic about soccer's future in this country.

dude has always been a dick and has never been able to keep his personal feelings/politics out of his reporting, so i'm not surprised he couldn't do it when it comes to soccer. Typical fox "news" garbage.

Real - perhaps the most reasonable Fox viewer in the history of Fox viewers. Glad to know that not all FNC fans are absolute morons! :D Completely agree with you Real.

That Fox News guy is one scary looking creature!!!

though Fox is a million times better than all other media networks, his bias against the game is funny.

Too bad MSNBC is too busy with their heads up Obamas ass to cover a story like this

lol fox is a million times better then all networks hahahahahahahaha
It astonishes me how people actually watch fox news. everyone there is a fucking idiot.

Herein lies the success of Fox News - even though they are filled with vitriol, this is the most comments I've ever seen on a post on this site period, much less in the short time period it's been up. It gets people talking, and everybody wants their say.

Also, snarkiest moment @ approx 2:45 from Shep "...won't they..."

Jeez people, thicken up that paper skin of yours. Not everyone agrees on everything else. He's like that all the time, with nearly every topic. Like John Stewart, or many other talking head with their own show, he's a filter through which consumers receive news, and his filter doesn't accommodate your particular point of view.

I general, a very positive piece.

This is the same problem US soccer fans have with ESPN -- smug and cavalier bashing of their sport.

This isn't men's figure skating -- it's just another team sport played with a round ball for Christ's sake! Why all the politics behind it!

In his defense, we all would be that arrogant too if we had his job. It's just that people from his generation trash things like soccer and other hippie fringe crap (their words...) in their arrogance.

We would trash the things we don't like or understand if we had his job and stature.

But still, it gets under your skin when it's this deliberately dismissive. And he can be that hateful with swagger because he's only really upsetting like 8% of the population (or whatever the percentage us so-called "soccerheads" in America make up of the population).

It's easy to bully sections of the population, especially when they don't have their own strong representative in the mainstream media.

Ironic -- isn't that why Fox News got started??
