This Just In: SF in Re-Employment Shocker!

Suit

You may have read in one of "the trades" this morning that your man SF has messed around and got himself a job. And despite the fact that it is written on the internet it is actually true: I am now under the employ of Major League Soccer. I feel like I was relegated and now promoted all in the span of 3 months.

Pretty nuts right? Not really. I'd been trying to get out of MTV and into MLS for over 3 years so it's been something of a long, winding road littered with blog posts, unrealised job interviews and consultancy gigs along the way. It took a while but being that one of the things --the main thing at the moment-- that I'll be working on will be to help craft the league's new website (coming in March 2010...hold on to your butts) I couldn't be more happy about it regardless of how long it took; as a fan of American soccer, to get a chance to show & prove to the world and not just my message board-frequenting brethren is an opportunity as rare as scoring at the Azteca.

As for what this means for TOR I'm not sure. Hell it might get revamped as well because no one, especially me, wants to see it go away so don't go deleting it from your favorites or anything. And as much as I would like to give the Peter Griffin thank you speech right now I will refrain as I don't want to be all "look at me" when I'm feeling nothing but thankful that I am working again and doing something I'm passionate about.

Now then...who wants to meet me out for an after work drink?

Congrats SF! Talented and driven people with passion for the sport, the league and its players are what MLS needs to make ventures like this a success.

Now if I could just find a way to weasel my way onto the new editorial staff...

Congrats on getting a job and putting food on the table. However getting a job in MLS is the worst thing you can ever do for your career and life. Good luck working 14 hour days and having no life while the higher ups treat you like shit!

Congrats!
Perhaps you can use the blog for input on the designs and campaigns you'll be rolling out? Although you probably know more about advertising that most of us little guys it would still be cool to use us readers as second opinions!

Congrats again, can't wait to see what the new MLS site looks like.

Wonderful, wonderful news, Shawn! Can't wait to see what you can do!

Holy Awesome! That's great stuff. Also enjoy the news of MLS bringing the online in-house. That's another good step for the league. Think the league or clubs will need any in-house designers for graphic content?

That is awesome! Congratulations. My only request is that you don't shut down your site. It is part of my daily soccer news/entertainment diet.

i hope this blog doesn't become bland. MLS is going to watch your blog like crazy for anti-mls stuff, and other unapprovable posts.

RIP TOR, no way you can serve two masters. Congrats though, I'd rather lose TOR for this than the time/pay thing usually associated with dead blogs.

You should definitely host some editor luncheon or some sort of drinks after work special. :D

No, not congrats - congratulations!! It's worth spelling out once in a while. Finding a job in this market blows, glad to see you not only got re-employed, but you got the dream job for MLS footie fans!

Congratulations SF! I too hope you're able to continue this blog, as it is one of my favorites.

I have a suggestion though. Anyway the MLS can get ownership of the mls.com or mls.net domain names? Maybe I'm making a big deal out of a small thing but mlsnet.com just seems silly and not very mainstream. I mean nfl has nfl.com, nba has nba.com, mlb has mlb.com, and nhl has nhl.com

congratulations SF! that is awesome news.

Congrats SF. Set aside for a moment that it is MLS(!)--I am glad you were able to get back on your feet so quickly.

Looking forward to that quality product.

Hearty congratulations, SF!

A most deserving appointment, and one which will no doubt benefit MLS as much as it does you and yours.
