LA Times Says What We're All Thinking: Who'll Partner With Jozy

Strikers

Read this piece in the LA Times about Charlie Davies being "irreplaceable". Note the conspicuous (almost) absence of The Striker Who's Name Shall Not Be Spoken™. If ever there was a time for him to get his ass in gear and remind all of us that he used to be somebody, this is it.

No, he's in there...in the same sentence as Edson Buddle.

i say either robbie or adu... we have to look to the future, worst case scenario is we loose (which i believe, now, we will anyways), but if we start someone young we finally will have a back up at worst that at least has some experience

"Clint Dempsey can play up top and has done so successfully, but he doesn't have Davies' speed, and sometimes not even Davies' hustle. He is better suited out wide right in midfield."

Haha yea because he isn't as fast and doesn't hustle he should stick to a position more demanding of speed and hustle (defense).

But I think it's time for Cunningham to come into the team. Bradley has awarded MLS players for good player in his past (look no further than Casey right now). It's time to look to the domestic league again.

why do we need another striker that's not in the currently used pool of players.

I'd love for EJ to get his shit together, but he has about the same soccer IQ as Dane Richards.

Altidore
Ching
Cooper
Casey

who else do you need?

As a side note, I'd like to see Adu make a run at the squad (pipe dream, I know). I think he has the same type of speed and creativity (much more important) that Davies had.

Hey, I think you got it right in the picture.

I'll cop to rampant bias as a Fire fan, but I think Chris Rolfe would be awesome opposite Jozy. The understanding that Rolfe and Marco Pappa worked out this year in the league has been gorgeous, and if Jozy and Rolfe can get even some of the pretty one-two thing going, they'll both have LOTS of open looks.

Chris Rolfe Is an awesome player. He has pure talent and great sportsmanship. He should be played more..... wherever he is at. I wish he would stay with the Fire! U.S soccer could benefit from his abilities.

no findley love? really? idk maybe im wasting my breath but he does things all by himself with outstanding hustle and speed that davies does and he seems to be getting no love... where are the Real fans at?

anyways im sure cunningham will get a call due to his incredible form as of late... rolfe would be interesting but he needs to prove it to bradley in practices (as the article claims) first.

kubrik: freddy adu is a pipe dream and brings a new meaning to keep dreaming, but as a true US Nat fan we never run out of dreams do we

I'm all about Robbie Findley taking the spot...but he needs international playing experience now. He's fast, tenacious, and really good with his left foot. Makes for a good pairing up front with jozy. But Cunningham is deserving, no doubt.
But freddy has to get his shit together and quick, and maybe grow a few inches, and maybe put on a few pounds of muscle....

i'm going with the clint dempsey option, that way you can get both he and Stuey holden into the mix. Holden is a better wide player, and Dempsey has shown in the past he can handle the position. Then you use Jozy in the Davies role as your speed man and let Dempsey slot in right behind and clean up the messes....or at least finish chances like Casey blew in the first half against Costa Rica.

Time for Commissioner Bradley to dust off the McBride signal and shine that sucker into the stormy night sky.

I'll just come out and say it, get Yura Movsisyan on the squad and develop that talent. Strength, size, creativity, sneaky fast, teach the kid how to finish and get him in the squad.

Gee. A bleak article by Grahame Jones. Who would've guessed?

That's Jones' best piece in a while

Bring in Movsisyan!
What about Ferrari from Sampdoria?
Sammy Ochoa?

Bring in Kobe Bryant.

Everyone makes valid points. I believe Findley would be the best option if receives international experience. He has scored ten goals playing virtually as a super sub this season. He possesses speed, skill, and hustle.

EJ and Cunningham should also receive consideration heading forward.

any chance that twellman is going to come back to health?

Dempsey positioned anywhere but forward makes him a defensive liability, to reiterate someone else's point. I'd like to see him up front with Jozy against Denmark. Yank him for Cunningham if that fails.

If we are to have two hulking "strikers" up top, which seems likely, I would like the key words to be pace and creativity in the midfield - donovan, torres, holden and bradley/clark - which seems unlikely.
