blatter needs to realize it gets cold as F^ck in the winter. and that's just one of the problems a fall/spring scheduled brings. the only thing MLS can do is end the numerous friendlies for clubs, end super liga. those dates along with a longer season (ealry march/mid december maybe) should be used to honor fifa dates.
It's not the weather dude. It's because the NFL, NBA and NHL start their seasons around that time, and the MLS can't compete with that. Besides, it only gets really cold in the northern part in the country.
Komar,Yeah, you know where Chicago, RSL, Colorado, New York, New England, Columbus, TFC and DC play.Or maybe you want the teams to spend millions on underpitch heating systems so the grounds don't freeze? It is the weather, and it is more, as you point out. The point is, soccer is not a winter sport in this country, and may never be. Sepp is ignoring the realities facing US soccer, and the numerous other European leagues that don't play to the "International" calendar. And anyway, do we really want to attract all the European market players? I'd rather see MLS groom good domestic players and have to quality of play in the league improve that way. Looking around the world, the strongest international teams are ones with strong domestic leagues where players can get meaningful experience with top teams.
I'll say this...switching the MLS schedule would prevent Beckham fiascos from happening. International superstars who think they'll come here and jump back and forth to stay in favor with their country will probably think twice and be forced to live with the decision that they make. I think it'd force these players to take the decision of coming over here much more seriously.I'm all for it. I understand the constraints with the grounds, but still.
Grooming top american talent prevents "beckham fisaco's" too. I believe that's MLS' real goal anyway. NFL,NCAA,NBA,NHL + Cold as F*ck weather = Summer Soccer. We are not europe, nor should we want to emulate them at all turns. Why does sepp care anyway? that corrupt jackass need to shut himself up
now only he would say the same thing for the swedish, Finnish, and those other leagues who do follow the same format as MLS
He's mind-bogglingly ignorant. If MLS team were able to offer "European market" players top dollar, many, like Beckham, would play here in a minute regardless of the calendar. It has almost nothing to do with it.
anon 2:23 he wont because there's more money to be made in the US
I used to be for having the MLS Schedule similar to the bigger euro leagues, but playing during a NE snowstorm or a Toronto snowstorm is just asking for trouble.
Can you help me to give me more information about it,i want it's information.
He was impressed with the stadiiums in NY and Dallas.
