Video: ESPN's Grant Wahl Interview

Speaking with Grant Wahl yesterday he joked that he now has as many publicist as David Beckham. Judging by the amount of TV appearances, interviews, articles and attention the guy has had in the last two weeks I would say they are doing a bang up job; these days the dude is as omnipresent as bruises on a barfly.

And you know what? I would bet that if I put up one of those polls in a post today asking who American soccer fans liked most right now, Wahl or Beckham, I actually think Wahl would win. I think New York should sign him ahead of tonight's match; he couldn't make us any worse and I bet he could draw a few good fouls off of Beckham with little to no effort.

I would still pick Becks. Wahl is just riding his coat tails. Becks in this league brings mainstream attention to our sport. Without Becks, no one would care about Grant Wahl.

Yeah, but who do you LIKE more?

I'm just going to come out and say it. Wahl's voice doesn't sound like it should be coming from him. Talk about a voice not fitting a personality.

RE: Sterlinho

Grant Wahl's one of the most prolific, and talented, writers that Sports Illustrated has had for a long time. I've read his articles and his blog before the book even came out, and now I'm reading that.

The guy's reporting fairly on Beckham and Golden Balls' media train can't handle any criticism. This is what you want from a journalist... impartiality. Reading the book, there's a good mix of good and bad. It reads fairly. Even like in the interview, "good teammate, bad captain."

I'd take Wahl.

Your right his voice does not match.

Wahl is a 2 bit smarmy hack leeching of the publicity magnet that is David Beckham. Anyone can take pot shots from outside the ring, let's see Wahl even attempt to take 1 step in Becks' boots - he'd make the same choices Becks is. ESPN hates soccer and they've appointed Wahl to champion their crusade.

yes, wahl writing a book that catalogs the galaxy's beckham posse-driven downfall is espn's insidious plot to destroy american soccer. he wasn't even a journalist before this, and how DARE someone call out beckham out for lying, especially when they're not a multi-millionaire sports/media/fashion magnet.
