UPDATE to the UPDATE: Out of Office

I'm in Hoboken at the W Hotel for the Osorio-Arena-Beckham press conference so I'll be away for most of the afternoon. Talk amongst yourselves while I sit here and pray that Grant Wahl -who is in the house-- asks Becks at least one question (I love awkward moments).

UPDATE: Ten minutes in, it just got awkward. Grant asked him to justify his commitment to MLS while spending time on loan. Becks asks if this is for another unauthorized book. Daggers from the dais from Beckham.

UPDATE to the UPDATE: Here's the video but unfortunately you only get Grant's initial question, not his replys to Beckham (I guess you just had to be there). Handbags at 20 paces y'all.

Why exactly is Osorio there again?

Can we get a Sirhan Sirhan moment on JCO please?

Whal... you can ask if Becks will play hard the first 5 games, then peter out and become worthless like he did recently with Milan and LA Galaxy in 08. Wait, didnt he do that also with Real Madrid too?

Any more updates? Im surprised this sort of thing doesnt get a live feed someplace.

Is that really a dagger?

The whole "you-shouldn't-write-books-about-me-unless-you-pay-for-the-privilege" mentality (which is apparently typical of European sporting culture?) strikes me as rather silly.

Whether Beckham has legitimate beef with Wahl or not (and I'm inclined to think not), pointing out that the book was 'unauthorized' doesn't seem like a very strong comeback.

Muy fabuloso!

Next question: "Leonardo's appointment was somewhat of a surprise as coach of AC Milan and brings to mind a certain Dutch signing at LA Galaxy last year. Any comment on those similarities and can you answer that with Byrne not moving his lips?"

so i guess he didn't answer the question?

It is a book about the MLS, not a Beckham biography. How is it "unauthorized"?

It's "unauthorized" because if it has his name in the title, he thinks it's about him.

becks does not look as comfortable during this interview, we will call it "interviews, circa 2009" as he did when he did "interviews, circa 2007." throw in the fact that he did not just take grant wahl's question and answer it, but instead decided to throw in a verbal jab on whether his answer would show up in "unauthorized book #2" (which is pretty weak on beckham's part) makes me think beckham wishes he could be anywhere but with the LA galaxy. he is losing a lot of Q rating in my book.....and i have always been a fan.....unfortunately for beckham, that is starting to change.

what I like about Beckham, as opposed to say Landon sometimes, is Beckham doesn't back down, whether it's on the field or off, if someone crosses the line and hacks him or says he's unprofessional, he stands up for himself. Really, the MLS has to love all of this buzz - it's a win win for Wahl and his book and the league. What if Beckham didn't come back? It'd be boring.

Wait, there's a W in Hoboken?

This entire press conference is on the Galaxy website. He isnt kidding when he says he didnt have to go back to the LA Galaxy. He could have paid the Galaxy the price they placed on him for Milan to get him once and for all instead of just paying to extended his loan.
