Video: Press Pass With The Final Word on The Final

Is it just me or does it seem like Tommy Smythe is having a hard time saying something nice about the Yanks performance? If he's not happy with it so be it but spare us the back-handed complements. He sounds like one of those guys who will say "Yeah, she's pretty hot for a ______ chick" and not see what's inherently messed up with that statement.

Tommy Smythe = The Truth ....

What's the problem ? The US won the first half but lost the second. That's what your favourite sports channel said.

And ... Donovan's goal was incredible, and I'm European.

who cares what he says, i doubt he even watched the game. even if he did, he knows little about the sport.

He knows a-ton about the sport. And, although this is not much of a compliment, he is the best commentator for our sport on ESPN. I've heard him say some very positive things about this game... somewhat more positive than this

His Oi-rish ass learned nothing from the turny. If the US plays the way they did against Spain and Eygpt in the WC they'll get out of the first round.

He's terrible! Him and Wynalda were horrible. Every game he goes out of his way to make an Irish comment and it makes me sick.

Jon D. Tommy will tell you himself that the average fella watching at home knows more about soccer than he does. His original claim to fame is Pony Handicapping and he considers himself a Gaelic football broadcaster first and foremost. That said, he has carved a very lucky charmed life out of that accent, and again... he'll be the first to tell ya so. There might be some Oireesh envy in his faint praise of the Yanks, but he has never said no to a request from the ESC and couldn't be more affable and humble in person.

Sean, hang in there mate. It takes guts to hang your life out on an internet clothesline, hopefully the USA run to the Final helped to take your mind off the business end of things. Come pour pints with us in the GV when ya can. Quality always rises.
