Kickin' It With Al Hopkins: LA's Got a Bruce Arena Problem Edition
I saw the other day on Bigsoccer that someone started an "Is Bruce Arena the worst coach in MLS?" thread. Could Allen Hopkins be behind it? Doubtful, but it's almost what he's suggesting here.
I don't think Bruce is a bad coach. When a team buys into his philosophy, and he's not being too much of a dick, they tend to perform very well.
Unfortunately for him, I think MLS and American soccer in general has passed him by. The reference frame he's working in is mid-90's to early 2000's. But we'll see. What's most important this season isn't whether the Galaxy achieve anything (they're not) but how well Bruce can teach the youngsters, most importantly the 1st and 2nd year defenders.
I think the modern game has passed him by, where his tactics and strategies are no longer unique. He looks like SGE in his last few games with Mexico - that I don't want to be here look.

The ESPN posts don't show up at all. Do you think you could include links to the original pieces?
Thanks and keep up the good posts.
"Is Bruce Arena the worst coach in MLS?"
YES !
The only reason he wouldn't be the worst coach in MLS is because that's too narrow, he's the worst coach in the known universe.

Plus there are coaches in Jersey and Frisco that would like to challenge him for that honor.
Anon - you are wrong about the known universe comment. You forgot to add, "In past, present and for the rest of the foreseeable future."
wow - didn't realize *everyone* hated Bruce...
oh well. Sigi is the schmidt up in Seattle! boo-yah!
