Do People Really Hate Tommy Smythe That Much?

smythe

"One guy emails religiously calling me a scum bag and saying that my mother should have had me aborted. I get a lot of sh*t."

Sure he can be a bit of an annoyance from time to time --almost anyone can-- but is The Leprechaun really that loathed by ESPN's soccer audience? The Guardian seems to think so. Charlie Rose on the other hand is cool with him though.

Jesus Christ, I'm assuming the majority of these people are Eurosnobs because if they watched any other soccer than UEFA CL they'd realize that, much like the sport itself, there isn't enough money out there to hire the best American sportscasters to cover soccer.

Rob Stone, while I like the guy, is covering things like underwater dart throwing and the other sportscasters on ESPN make fun of him to his face. Bretos? Professional wrestling. If Eurosnobs would support the sport at home, maybe we'd have the incentive to hire and recruit better announcers.

I have felt this way for years, and I'm so happy that there are others who share my disdain!

I am not gonna lie, I like the guy, and I find him entertaining.

he is by far the worst commentator even including the idiots on FSC. i have never heard him say anything even remotely insightful.

i like him. dont really understand what supposedly so bad about him.

He's better than Phil Shoen, Ty Keough and Shep Messing...and way better than Dave "Baseball" O'Brien.

Every time Smythe uses that stupid onion bag comment, god kills a kitten.

are guys judging him by voice or his knowledge of the game? I like the guy. In fact I look forward to hearing his comments when the game is exciting.

Good to hear about the dead kittens. Hope he keeps the onionbag full of kitten corpes. BTW - the Obama kids and I are getting along great.

Cheers,

I don't mind him, either. I'll take him over Marcelo Balboa and the baseball guy any day.

he is awful. he's never said anything to make be believe he's ever played the game at any respectable level. horrendous, get him off.

Oh, so now commentators must have played the game at a respectable level. Thanks for posting, Nery Castillo!

i actually like him. and when you compare him to the fools on FSC, it's like comparing the voice of fran dresher to morgan freeman's.

Tommy Smyth is the man. Who would you rather have? Julie Foudy?

Tommy Smythe is unbearable, annoying, smug and worst of all, has a grating voice that, combined with his ridiculous use of old cliches, makes watching the most enjoyable game an ordeal! He shoud be locked in a room with Max Bretos so that they can both learn how downright annoying they both are. I pray that ESPN will not hand commentating on EPL games to Smythe!

The man is a total git - his knowledge of football could be carried in a lepracauns condom. But then , Americans get what they deserve, they have no appreciation of the beautiful game and they will continue to fag about in their tight leggings and padding and try to convince the rest of the world that American Football (now there's an oxymoron - look it up, you dumbass Yanks)is a real game).

And no, I am not Eurotrash pushing the real game - I am from the other side of the world. Memo to thick xenophobic Americans - there is some more world out there!!

Tommy Smyth makes my ears bleed.
For the love of God and all that is good in the world make him stop.
If I could kick him in the auld onion bag I would - with great joy.
Replace him with an untrained monkey; that would have the dual benefit of both being an upgrade to soccer fans and taking those smug trained monkeys down a peg or two.
