Austin USL Side Sign Former England Youth National Teamer

While I --and probably many of you-- have been keeping an eye on the expansion doings in Seattle and Philadelphia this off-season, USL 1 new boys Austin Aztex have been quietly going about the business of getting their sh*t together. They have signed a pair of PDL players and today announced there 1st "major signing".

Enter former Watford & Stoke City striker Gifton Noel-Williams, signed on a two-year deal from Millwall. A journeyman in recent years (he's spent time in Spain's second division as well as with Burnley & Yeovil Town) but still on the right side of 30, it seems like a pretty good pickup for an expansion USL side. Sh*t, on paper he sounds better that most of the strikers at RBNY. And a random factoid about him; for a time he was Michael Owen's strike partner in England's U-18 squad.

Welcome to America blokey.

the man couldn't score a goal for Yeovil Town.

The biggest icon to play in the USL-1 this coming season? Musa Otieno.

If you played Championship Manager in the late 90's the Noel-Williams were the bomb.

"the man couldn't score a goal for Yeovil Town."

He only played in 8 games there. If you look over his history, he's a 'goal-every-4-games' player. Not scoring in 8 games isn't necessarily that far off.

That said, the Stoke discussion board are talking a lot about his arthritis. Which gives him a hard time in the cold of England, but he should do fine here in Texas. Just not so fine in Montreal and Vancouver away games.
