How is it that taking off your shirt is an automatic yellow card, yet Khano Smith aimed a fire-arm (it was a musket loaded with blanks, but still) at the crowd after scoring against Chivas USA and got nothing? I'm not mad at him at all for it, I just don't get how that is not excessive celebration. If he's getting away with that, then Ante Razov is by all rights free to dry hump the person in the Goat costume at Chivas matches.

He didn't actually fire the gun, SF. He just picked it up and aimed it at the Fort.
For some reason, the minutemen never fired their muskets last night. usually they do after every goal but not last night. Maybe Foxboro has some sort of noise ordinance on weekday nights.
You bet your ass they would shoot them off during a Monday night or Thursday night NFL game. Probably cheap-ass Kraft saving some dough. Gotta definitely give it up for those minutemen being at every match though, a lot less glorious than the Pats' games...
It's Khano Smith. Even if he shot, it is unlikely he would have hit what he was aiming at.
I was always under the impression that the no-taking-your-shirt-off automatic yellow card was a product of pressure from gear manufacturers, so the swoosh or three-stripes or whatever would always be in shot when there was a close-up of a goal scorer celebrating. Am I wearing a tin-foil hat or is this for reals?
I think the musket guys are about the only thing I don't loathe about Boston and Boston-esque sports. I remember watching Deuce scoring a goal a couple years ago and taking one of the tricornes from a musket guy, putting it on and improvising a little jig. I giggled.
@timpramas
excellent point, haha.
@lucas
i never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense.
I'd like to think that MLS rewards players for creative celebrations, rather than the stale ones of the past.
The only thing Razov should be humping is that hottie of a girlfriend/wife he walks around with in LA. Let the uglier guys on Chivas USA hump the farm animals.
eski humping a sheep would be pretty funny. only if he puts his protective headgear on the sheep first.
EXCELLENT POINT.
Seriously, the kinder, gentler MLS can go fuck itself. I am not at all happy about the increased input that the PR douches have had over The Don this season.
Get a back bone and start getting serious about maintaining your long term fanbase rather than appealing to those that come for one game.
maybe because it was 9/11?
that's just a guess.
Yeah, that's right. The minutemen did not fire the muskets in last night's game out of respect for the 9/11 anniversary. They raised the muskets but did not fire.
I heard the shirt-taking-off celebration became no-nos due to the time it takes said player to put the shirt back on - in effect "delaying" the game.
