Video: When Reyna Ruled the World

If you weren't in attendance for the Red Bulls-Barcelona match on Wednesday I've got a little something to show you. And if you were there but you spent half-time trying to get a beer, get to the bathroom and get the digits of one of those scandalous little Red Bull Girls, you might want to see this as well.

Courtesy of Red Bulls Reader, it's the Claudio Reyna tribute video that was shown on the Jumbotron's during half-time. It's got all manner of testimony, rare footage and --in the second half-- that excellent, yet inescapable Coldplay song that is everywhere right now. You know that one that start's like this:

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

Rarely are lyrics so eerily appropriate. Have a look and remember the good times.

you know a highlight reel sucks, when they repeat clips within the video. lame.

Nice video. I'd like to see more MLS video's that are that well done.

i do have to agree, the repeating of the clips brings it down a notch.

I think that says it all

I'll block out the MLS disaster and fondly remember his Nats days.

What sucks more than the repeated clips is the occasional fast-motion sequences.

No, no, no and just NO. To all video-makers out there: Fast-motion never looks good with sports action. It makes the sequence look silly and cheesy. Soccer should appear smooth and graceful -- not like an old Keystone Kops clip.

I don't know why I typed "Kops." I'd even double-checked it at Wikipedia, and not only did it confirm it's "Cops," it includes a section explicitly noting that "Kops" is incorrect.

I've really gotta stop smoking this crack.
