In case you where wondering what's going on with The League Formerly Known as MISL, there will be an announcement on September 16th that will reveal the details on indoor soccer's latest incarnation. But all you really need to know is that the revamped league will be called....wait for it....wait for it....the Xtreme Soccer league.
Seriously, I'm not making it up. And if that didn't make you say "Oh dear" in the gravest tone you posses, the league is coupled with the Xtreme Soccer Xperience. According to the press release this is "more than an indoor soccer league, the XSX is an energetic and innovative 12-month experience built around skilled soccer professionals, entertainment and fan participation — both live and online." I'll reserve judgement until Sept. 16th but it sure sounds like a bad video game doesn't it?
Somewhere, Monster Energy Drink and Mountain Dew are fighting it out to sponsor the 2008 Xtreme Soccer League All-Star Game.

Xtreme to the MAXXX! Really though, it sounds like a soft drink commercial gone horrendously wrong.
This is the perhaps the stupidest idea ever.
Heard about this a few weeks ago. What a joke.

straight-edge soccer?
This is an excellent idea! After the success of taking "America's favorite sport" to the Xtreme with the XFL, the XSX will surely be a resounding success in todays cultural landscape!
Wait What?
It's not just an epic fail. It's an XTREME EPIC FAIL!!!
"Oh, Dear" is exactly, um, Xactly what I said.
This is a car accident I will not miss. I'm interested in what they do and where it's going, but the word "Extreme" has been played out and overdone. I want to puke when I hear it in reference to food, bevi, or sports as they are all something I enjoy and using that name in reference to any of them is always going to be a disappointment.
XFL was a success, but I think the WWE did not want to run a legitimate sport as opposed to "sports entertainment" football so they 86'd the league ASAP.
In other news, the late 90's called and they want their marketing tactics back.
I wonder how much influence the Ironmen marketing department had on this XTREME! decision.

I'm happy that the players I know still have a team to play for this fall, but I'm guessing they are going to feel more than a little embarrassed at the bastardization of the sport and occupation they've given so much to.
Funny that Baltimore and Philly do not have any mention of this on their websites. Along with Milwaukee they have been the class of the league for a long time. This all sounds like some type of bad joke.
