This Just In: The Rowdies Resurrected

Rowdies

If you're Florida resident who has been saving their vintage ring-necked Crazy George t-shirt for a special occasion, I think I've got something that may interest you. The word out of Tampa --incarcerated stripper capital of the world-- is that USL-1 will resurrect the Rowdies name & colors from the NASL graveyard for the 2009 season. What's more is that they'll be playing in some form of new soccer stadium but the details are scant.

Incidentally, the USL league offices are in Tampa and GolTV is headquartered in Florida as well. Which means maybe, juuuust maybe we'll see a return of Mad Ray Hudson patrolling the sidelines. Is it likely, no, but I can dream can't I?

Thanks for this news. This is fabulous for USL-1. Not necessarily so excited about reviving the Rowdies. But, hey, anything that keeps the league stable enough that it can stay around so my Aztex can win a few trophies!

Anyone who isn't excited about the return of the Rowdies simply doesn't get it. This is fantastic news.

BTW, they are coming to USL Division 1 in 2010, not 2009. They are going to use the next 22 months to build a 7,000 to 10,000 seat SSS, and to create a youth academy. The new owners want to relaunch the Rowdies properly, with their own stadium and youth teams and other teams and coaching system already in place. 2009 will be a busy year for the Rowdies, but they won't actually be playing in USL Division 1 until 2010.
