I have no idea how many people tuned into the Oscar De La Hoya-Steve "I don't sleep in silk pajamas" Forbes fight at the Home Depot Center this weekend, but assume it was in the neighborhood of 10 Zillion. And I'd bet a good portion of those folks got to hear the name "Home Depot Center" for the 1st time, and where then informed that it is the home of Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy which that guy Beckham plays for. They also learned that De La Hoya is part owner of another MLS team, the Houston Dynamo, who's colors and logo were featured in pretty much every single camera shot of Mr. De La Hoya.
Now ask yourself the following question: with a huge venue (for boxing), a national audience and no title on the line, was this a sporting event or a brilliantly subtle & pseudo-intentional marketing event for MLS and Oscar's post-fighting career?
