Video: CNN One-On-One With David Beckham
So I was clicking through CNN.com this a.m. to find out what happened in last night's Democratic debate when I stumbled upon this interview with Becks. It's almost 7 minutes of some guy called Terry Baddoo trying to conduct one of the most negative interviews you'll see all day. Seriously, what's with people always asking questions about soccer in a negative tone, particularly when it involves Goldenballs?
Maybe I'm just being defensive this morning, I dunno. I'm no Galaxy fan but I am an MLS fan so as I watch this I just feel like this guy is one of that breed of condescending British writers who just wants to slag our David -and he is our David now- off for the sake of it. I don't know you guy, but damned if I don't like you. How can you honestly hate on a man who's rapport with children is this irreproachable?
I know that there is a least one person who checks out TOR regularly that works at CNN. If you see this guy in the commissary today feel free to spill his coffee on him for me.

what's with the guy break dancing and crawling around in the background when the reporter poses the first question?
Even Beck's academy is a circus.
i can't tell if it's the reporter's tone that's negative or if it's just that pompous accent.
I'll be honest - I read your comments about the video and prepared myself to get pissed off at it, because I get defensive about the same things.
But seriously, I didn't hear anything negative at all in it. I didn't feel like the guy asked negative questions at all. A Brit is naturally going to ask about the quality of the league - remember that it gives Beckham the chance to say that it's actually pretty good. What was negative about it, really?
You may be on to something. I might just be the accent that makes him sound like a ball-buster.
"The Manchester United of the MLS"? God help us. This CNN guy has worked for them for ages. He always sounds a little patronising. I speak as a fellow Englishman. I don't think the interview was negative. It was just the usual cliched stuff. Why didn't he ask Becks about buying part of the Galaxy? The only thing that worried me in the interview was when Becks said Landon loves to get on the end of his balls.
As David is English, I doubt he found the accent in any way patronizing. I'm English and I think some of you Yanks may simply be having a problem getting your head around hearing a black guy with a proper English accent
(which many of you think sounds pompous on a white guy). As for the content of the interview, well it was nice to hear David put on the spot about soccer here in the USA. Most of the media coverage he's had since being here has been of the kiss-ass variety, either fawning over him like a Hollywood celebrity or people like Anderson Cooper asking soccer 101 questions like "How do you bend the ball?" Jeez, anyone who's ever kicked a tin can knows HOW to bend the ball, we just can't do it! This interviewer actually asked him SOCCER questions, which forced him to go beyond the hype. And if they were "cliches" I hadn't heard them answered before, so that made them valid. So, for me, the interview worked. But then I'm just another condescending Brit I suppose.
By the way, I am not Baddoo, his agent, his Dad, or anything to do with the guy. I don't even watch CNN. But I do watch soccer, and, as a United fan, I watched Becks when he was good.
