Photo of the Day: The Clash's Mick Jones Reps The ESC

clash

Hey y'all. I'm dragging a little this morning but I have a smile on my face that is almost as big as the one I have in the photo above. That's me with Mick Jones from The Clash; his new band (with Tony James from Generation X) Carbon/Silicon played my local punk rock bowling alley last night on 2 days notice due to getting denied entry into Canada. So instead of sitting on their English arses in a hotel in Manhattan for a few days they decided to entertain the freaks, burnouts and cute punk chicks of the Jersey Shore which was basically the best idea ever. (As a side note The Clash opened their "Combat Rock" tour 26 years ago with a 3 night stand in a venue 2 blocks away.)

I know it's not the best photo but I've always been tits-over-tail for The Clash, and Big Audio Dynamite so please excuse me for looking even happier than I did the first time I ever copped a feel. And after seeing Carbon/Silicon I'm pretty smitten with them today as well so I'm recommending that anyone with a predisposition for a certain strain of UK rock made by men of a certain age give them a listen today.

You know the best part about my night though? I got him to rock a Metrostars-era ESC scarf in the photo to keep it old-school on 2 different levels. The runner-up would be Mick teasing us with the opening verse of Sandinista!-era classic "Police on My Back" during the encore. BC if you're out there today, this one is for you.

As Mick asked me about my Liverpool jersey, TOSR head honcho yelled out: "It's no Fulham Jersey!", much to the delight of a toasty Mick Jones.
