This Just In: MLS Clubs Headed for Hawaii

Hawaii image for The Offside Rules

Pack your bags bitches. Pack them with beach wear. Pack them with condoms. Pack them with a Don Ho cd. We're going to Hawaii. And no we are not embarking on a potentially lucrative and dangerous career as a drug mule. We're going to the inaugural Pan-Pacific championships.

This February four teams from Major League Soccer, Australia's A-League and Japan's J-League will scrap it out in the islands for a catamaran full of cash and the title of Emperor of Pacific Futbol or something equally impressive. God only knows what kind of inappropriate chants the US and Japanese fans will come up for this one, but they could potentially rival the ones I heard at England v. Germany ("2 world wars and 1 world cup, do dah, do dah").

The Sydney Morning Herald has all the low-down, including info that the LA Galaxy will have a standing automatic bid in to the tournament. Other spots will be filled by the champions of the respective leagues.

So this is the same time as the CONCACAF Champions Cup? Forget it. I hope Dynamo plays CONCACAF and gives this a miss.
