The latest on the Portland/Seattle expansion bid sees Rose City suburb Hillsboro becoming a potential alternative to PGE Park or a new downtown stadium. Personally I don't know too much about Portland (although the wife raves about it) other than Doc Martens is based there and in the 80's & 90's it was Americas skin head capital.
Some people love the new parks being built in the 'burbs while others think it's a serious misstep (cough, just like Iraq, cough). One thing Hillboro has going for it though that Frisco or Commerce City doesn't is mass rail transit....and few things are as fun as piling on to a train on the way to a game with a slab of beers and your boys, scaring the other passengers with the most vulgar songs you can possibly think of.

Trains are good when they take you to the stadium. The one that goes to Hillsboro doesn't stop close to the proposed stadium site.
Boooo to far away trains! As I said I don't know the area...good looking out on clearing that up.
Couldn't they find another suburb not named "Hillsboro" -- wasn't that where the 1989 Liverpool massacre took place?
Nice catch, macarthur.
Hey. I'm just spreading the thoughts I have about this one; I'm an actual, living breathing Hillsboro resident. But, for the sake of fairness, I also like doing the pro/con thing.
Anonymous is right about the train not going right by the stadium. I think that can be fudged well enough and the stadium site does sit immediately adjacent to a highway - albeit one that's sometimes over crowded. Based on what I know of the other two (Bridgeview and Frisco) Hillsboro should be a better, though by no means ideal, option.
Dude, if you haven't been to Hillsboro don't say anything nice about it. I have to work there, it sucks, I drive right past Hillsboro stadium, the location sucks. The train is far away (that's like saying I heard there's a subway in California, it must take me to Fresno). MLS must be in downtown Portland. Come visit Portland to find out what we're talking about. Its all about bikes and mass transit.
I would leave politics out of your posts. It doesn't suit this website nor the countless soccer fans who support the troops AND what they do; liberating over 55 million Muslims in the Middle East. You can’t support the troops and not the war, unless you take pride in being a liar. However, if you don't think Arabs deserve a democratic electorate that's your prerogative.
Dear Anonymous,
FYI my nephew is going to Iraq in Aug. I support him and the rest of the troops (never said I didn't, you assumed I don't). But I think it was a bad idea to go there for reasons that are too numerous to go into, sorry I just do. My opinion is not about Musilms or Arabs (which FYI not all Iraqis are Muslim or Arab)or democracy either, I just don't think it was a smart move.
As far as politics in my posts, your suggestion is duly noted but I will respectfully decline. If you want simple soccer news & analysis this may not be the place for you. If you want American soccer with a bit of music, sex, fashion, art, film, politics and other "lifestyle" content thrown in I'd love to have you hang around.
Hey anonymous, you can't possibly be that stupid. One can easily disagree with government policy and actions and still be patriotic. In fact, I can't think of anything more undemocratic than telling other people what they can say in a public forum.
Also, your understanding of middle east culture is laughable. You can't impose democracy upon people who have no shown inclination to work for it themselves.
Oh, and as for the stadium in Portland goes. These suburbian stadia are ridiculous for cities that don't embrace car culture. Sure, it makes sense for California. Bu why RBNY plays in New Jersey and continues to do so is beyond me. Milions of people in NYC, most of which don't have cars, yet they expect people to fork over extra money and deal with transfering between transit systems to go to NJ to see the club play. Have you ever tried to get from Brooklyn to a RBNY match? Pain in the arse. That's why the play to no one, and I'm skeptical of the impact the new park will have.
